Astrid Harbord’s Fashion Week Diary
I had a low moment at the Serpentine Gallery’s Future Contemporaries party this Fashion Week. How can one spend the day watching elegant models strut down the catwalk in not much more than shorts or summer dresses while then at night trying to ignore the fact that you could feel your damp hair from the pouring rain outside drip down your back? However the rain passed by the time the tiny and beautiful Aluna George sang outside in the Serpentine’s gardens. Thank god for my Leon Max fur gilet though as it was not a warm night. I bumped into gallerist Alex Dellal who was talking babies and claimed that being a dad did not mean sleep deprivation. He disappeared off into the party. Amber Le Bon with her luscious long locks was there and the gorgeous Ben Grimes all dressed in black. Ollie Proudlock from Made in Chelsea and I charged up to the front of the stage to listen to the ex-Sugababes who had been gathered together to perform some of their new tracks. Interesting. Otis Ferry was full of his girlfriend Edie Campbell’s fashion show schedule, resplendent in the Belstaff leather jacket that he had been given the night before at the opening of their new store on Bond Street. For me this was the party of the week because – although this time the weather was definitely not on our side – it didn’t matter as we all got to see Becks. Yes! David Beckham, the new ambassador for Belstaff was definitely the main attraction, dressed in leathers with slick backed hair looking mighty fine. He was a thoroughly nice chap and told George Frost how he’d been a big fan of his late father, Sir David. Pixie Lott, Lady Victoria Hervey and the actress Olivia Grant all made an appearance at the party which was – this is fashion week after all – full to bursting. However my stomach was quite the opposite so I hot-footed down the road to meet my friends, the property King and Queen of One Hyde Park, Christian and Emily Candy, at the Wolsey for dinner. A perfectly civilised way to round off a fashion bun-fight on a Sunday night.
