As the Summer Solstice passes and the first week of Wimbledon gets under way it’s only natural that our thoughts turn to white. White can be pure, clean, crisp and cute, see Sienna’s style. It can be rock n’ roll and all Bianca Jagger in the ’70s revving things up in Studio 54, catch Cameron’s vibe. White stands for innocence and femininity - think Daisy in the ‘Great Gatsby;’ her car was white, her clothes were white, the rooms of her house were white, she had a ‘white neck’ and was the king’s daughter ‘high in a white palace.’ But think again - it can be naughty, saucy and sexy too, cue Rihanna’s bared midriff sported with a preppy skirt and a jacket and glasses Jackie O wouldn’t have shied away from. Meanwhile in London Stella McCartney has unveiled her debut tennis collection of whites with Brit tennis champ Laura Robson modelling it - who better? Because white is a heavenly colour. Quite literally; “white is not a mere absence of colour; it is a shining and affirmative thing, as fierce as red, as definite as black,” wrote G.K.Chesterton. It’ll be all white on the night.
